Author Interview: Sapphire Geer

Get to know the newest author to be published by Courage Publishing!

With Sapphire's debut memoir set to release in just a month's time, we thought it would be great to sit down with her and see how she's enjoying all that is coming up around her authorship, Survive, and what she's planning next.

1. Now that you’re coming upon your launch day, how does being an author differ from what you’d imagined holding that title would feel like?

"Right now, the reviews coming in from our beta readers and advanced readers are the biggest thing making this feel real. Actually having someone see it and telling me how it makes them feel—mostly positive—fills me with a purpose I didn't know I had. I feel emboldened to live a more visible life to help others. Holding the title "Author" is nothing like I thought it might be—it's better. I think when the physical copy is in my hands, it will truly be life changing for me."

2. We know memoirs can be really close to the heart and it can take a lot of courage to write them. What was the final turning point that made you decide to eventually sit down and write this book?

"I had been wanting to write this story for a long time. Well, compelled is more like it. I got into an accident in 2016 right before Christmas, and I was sitting there dealing with emotions and pain—and cold—and it hit me. There was no better time than now."

3. Now that you have your book on the way and can add “published author” to your resume, what’s next for you?

"I am not exactly sure, but I am feeling a very large shift coming in my life, and with this journey, I feel like I am being led to help more people somehow. I am not exactly sure what that looks like at the moment, but I have a feeling it will reveal itself soon! Maybe coaching? Maybe speaking? Who knows?"

“What kind of cruel reality was I living in? Why did this life belong to me?

11-year-old Sapphire immediately engages the reader with her earnest, God-questioning, no-nonsense account of the events of her life in the Yukon wild.

In this coming of age tale, Sapphire, our protagonist, lives out a doomsday tale come true. After a life-time of emotional abuse by her step-father - the only father she’s ever known - she delivers a first-hand account of her efforts to save her family and herself from certain death in the wilds of the Yukon.

Author, Sapphire Geer, writes this convincing, first-person narrative of a young girl, who when faced with insurmountable odds, has the strength to question parental decisions, personal motives and her relationship with God; even as she overcomes continuous challenges in her journey for survival.

“I worked on kindling my frustration, anger and sadness into a will to survive.”
