What's Your 2023 Halftime Plan?

We've made it! Half way through 2023 and time is FLYING. I can't believe how fast it's gone.

If you are anything like me, you have reached this point in the year with some accomplishments to show, and some New Year's resolutions are still a twinkle in your mind's eye, yet to be born to this brave new world.

When I entered this year, I set a goal to write and publish a book. I had many projects already in the works, but it had come down to three that I was actively working on and thought I could narrow myself down into finishing at least one of them. Luckily, I know myself well enough that I was able to accomplish just that, and got into the editing process before the halfway point of the year rolled around.

Of course, many people enter a new year with a goal to write and/or publish a book. In fact, I believe the beginning of the year is chock-full of people embarking on their own creative endeavors with hopes of finishing something before the next year rolls around. However, like many resolutions, most people will reach this point in the year with nothing much to show for progress towards their goals.

So, how have your projects been coming along? Have you made it this far with a goal in mind and steps taken to achieve it? Are you actively doing the work to achieve?

If not, don't sweat it. While I'd love to say I sat down on January 1 and cranked out a book, the one I ended up finishing was actually three years in the making. In fact, the three books I started the year with were all already in various stages of drafting, so I already had ideas and progress to work off of before I jumped into 2023.

In my opinion, the goals set in a new year are meant to start the engine and get you moving, but like any good road trip, it is not about the destination. We want the journey from plotting to publication to be full of pitstops and amazing sights. Your book writing journey is one and the same. Don't get caught up in the goal and miss out on the joys of accomplishment. Celebrate the little wins as much as the big ones.

It can be easy to reach July and wonder where the time went and fret about how much you haven't accomplished, but no matter how much you did or didn't do from January through June, be sure to count everything you've done and every step you've taken in between. You never know how this unfolding process and the connection made will aid you.

We are always looking to work with published and aspiring authors. If you're interested in kickstarting the second half of your year, book a free consultation to discuss your goals and possible paths to success.
